Former chair of Liverpool Young Greens and current Co-Convenor of Young Greens North Hannah Ellen Clare was nominated for ‘Best Activist’ at the Liverpool Guild of Students Awards this week. Hannah was nominated for her role in organising student protests against the sell off of the student loan book, and against the unfair wage ratio between the highest and lowest paid worker at the university.
In a report produced by the Young Greens last year, it was revealed that the University of Liverpool has the 17th most unfair wage ratio of 113 British universities surveyed. As a result, Liverpool Young Greens have been working tirelessly on their 10:1 campaign to promote fairer pay in Liverpool. Hannah also worked with the Student Assembly Against Austerity and Counterfire Liverpool to organise a protest in November against the sell off of the student loan book, which made national headlines.
The award eventually went to Kitty Worthing, a Friends of Palestine Activist, but we commend Hannah’s work on making the shortlist. Hannah said “I am pleased to have been shortlisted among with two other fantastic activists, showing that student activism is very much alive and kicking in Liverpool.” “I hope to continue working to ensure that we achieve a 10:1 ratio between the highest and lowest paid workers at all of our universities.”
