An Open Letter to Mayor Joe Anderson by Cllr Lawrence Brown

Dear Mayor Anderson,
As the newly elected representative for Greenbank ward, I am asking you to reconsider the decision to sell Sefton Park Meadows for housing land. In my opinion, a sizeable proportion of the vote that I received in the City Council election was due to my, and the Green Party’s opposition to the sale and development of the Meadows.

I have campaigned in elections for many years but rarely have I come across an issue which has raised such passions as the Save Sefton Park Meadows campaign has. People are angry and upset about the proposition for a host of reasons – you will be aware that these have been expressed on many occasions over the past year or so since the initial decision was taken.

What is clear however is that the passion and belief in an alternative course is not diminishing over time; any campaign which is as strongly felt fourteen months after it began as it was at the beginning should not be easily dismissed.

Will you consider implementing an alternative course of action? One that improves and enhances the Meadows rather than ruin it; the inevitable result of handing it over to property developers?
Yours sincerely,
Councillor Lawrence Brown
