Huge thanks and congratulations to Chrisie Byrne and everyone who worked tirelessly to save the park. Well done!

Liverpool Green Party welcomes the fantastic news that there will be no development on Walton Hall Park, and that its status as a park will be enshrined in the city’s Local Plan. We are opposed to building on parks and cherished green spaces, and hope this is the first victory of many for the numerous groups in Liverpool fighting to defend their local green space from the bulldozer.

However, proposals had come up against determined opposition from campaigners aiming to retain Walton Hall Park who became part of a wider coalition opposing development on green spaces across the city, a cause taken up by opposition parties including the Greens.

Plans for a new stadium for Everton FC – plus a major housing and retail development – on Walton Hall Park have been abandoned.

The club and Liverpool council have confirmed they will now be looking elsewhere for new home for the Blues.

The Mayor has also pledged Walton Hall Park will “remain a park and will be designated as such” – ruling out future development there. The council and club now say they are looking at two other sites.
