Lark Lane: A Great Street in a great place

Residents Rejoice News of Great Street Nomination

Aigburth residents have always known that Lark Lane is a special place, now it seems that experts at The Academy of Urbanism agree.

Members of the Academy, who visited the iconic street in August this year, have named it a Great Street, and on the tenth anniversary of The Academy of Urbanism, it is one of three UK streets battling it out to win the national Great Street Award 2017.

Local Green Party Councillor, and metro-mayor hopeful, Tom Crone commented that this is fantastic news for the area, but not a surprise.

Being a local councillor, I’ve got to know the residents, businesses, and visitors who make Lark Lane one of the best areas in Liverpool. Its fantastic mix of  independent shops, bars and restaurants, as well as some of the greenest nearby streets in the city, really make Lark Lane stand out. It’s great to be recognised for these special features.”

I’m urging residents and people from all over the city, to tweet about their pride in Lark Lane using the hashtag #LarkLaneGreatStreet. Let’s get everyone trumpeting the reasons why Lark Lane has been nominated as a Great Street.” Cllr Crone continued. “The more support we show our area, the more visitors we can attract; this could be a great boost for local businesses!

Councillor Crone, who leads the Green Party on Liverpool, was joined in his praise for the area by other Green Party councillors for the Sefton Park area, including Sarah Jennings, Lawrence Brown and Anna Key, all of whom were delighted with the nomination.

The awards, which take place in London on 16th November, also had Liverpool’s Pier Head on The Great Place awards long list but this narrowly missed out on a finals place to sites in London, Leicester, and Waterford, leaving the Lark Lane nomination the only Liverpool nomination in the finals.

Unfortunately, there is not a public vote for these awards, so Councilor Crone and his colleagues have their green fingers crossed for a result on Wednesday night.
