Greens have publicly backed the RMT in their dispute over Driver Only Operated trains. Now, as the cost of to the taxpayer of the continuing strikes becomes clear it is time for city leaders to stop sitting on their hands and find a settlement.
Local Labour politicians got it wrong when they gambled that the unions would accept the change to DOO trains, and now their miscalculation is hurting taxpayers as well as passengers. It is time to concede that a second member of staff must be allocated to each train, and end this dispute which was entirely caused by the decision to make changes that are unacceptable to the workers on our fantastic local rail network.”
