Flight Free Pledge

We are all having to face up to the fact that to meet the challenge of climate change we have to manage our own carbon budgets very tightly indeed. Flying and mechanized sailing are considerable contributors to both atmospheric carbon dioxide, and more generalised air pollution. Attractive as travel is we need to minimise our use of these kinds of transport.

Flight Free UK advocate making a pledge not to use flights in 2020. If you are willing to make that commitment go to their website, https://www.flightfree.co.uk/pledge .

As we know all too well in Liverpool, air pollution from cruise and container ships, burning high sulphur fuel  is very destructive of air quality and contributes to global warming—cruise ship engines remain on even when moored in the city centre. We must also support campaigns to force shipping companies to stop using bunker fuel and switch to cleaner alternatives. See http://www.rcinet.ca/eye-on-the-arctic/2019/03/12/carnival-corporation-ships-switch-to-cleaner-fuel-on-arctic-cruises/ for a small step forward.
