Councillor Tom Crone has been elected leader of the Liverpool’s Green Group by members of the Liverpool Green Party. The Green Group currently has four members and forms the main opposition party in Liverpool City Council.
Councillor Crone studied Environmental Science at John Moore’s University before setting up a successful small business. He works as an Energy Assessor advising householders on energy efficiency. As a resident and Councillor in St Michaels ward he is well known in the community. Cllr Crone has set up recycling collections and given away wormeries so that residents can turn food waste into compost. As well as helping to reduce domestic waste he has been involved in setting up community gardens.
Tom Crone said:
“There is a huge surge of interest in Green policy and in practical projects that deliver environmental and economic benefits. We know that Liverpool is billed as the third best city the world to visit. We want to help make it one of the best places to live, work and play.
“I will promote small and locally owned businesses as an essential part of a thriving and sustainable local economy.
“I will defend green spaces and parks, oppose the selling of green spaces to developers, and welcome house building on vacant brownfield sites.”
My experience promoting energy efficiency and finding ways to cut waste has shown me huge potential to improve how we do things in Liverpool. As Green Group leader my role is to coordinate a potentially growing number of elected Green Councillors.
The departing Green Group Leader Councillor John Coyne is standing down as Councillor in May. In a statement to Liverpool Echo last year Councillor Coyne’s stated that he has not ruled out standing for election as Mayor at some time in the future.
Cllr Crone Has lived in Aigburth for 15 years and is a father of two children.
